For Immediate Release – Students at Fern Creek Traditional High School showed the greatest improvement on the 2010 ACT Test of any of the 21 high schools in the Jefferson County Public Schools system. The test results, as reported by the Kentucky Department of Education, also ranked Fern Creek eighth out of 21 schools in the average composite score of juniors who took the test last spring.

“We are very pleased for our students and teachers to get the positive recognition they deserve for a job well done,” said Dr. Houston Barber, principal of Fern Creek Traditional High School. “We mounted a fun campaign to encourage our students to ‘Rock the Test’ and that’s exactly what they did. But we credit the hard work of the students, especially those who participated in our ACT Up! prep courses, for the increase in these numbers.”

The composite ACT score at Fern Creek increased by 1.2, the largest jump in the district and a significant increase for a testing scale where 36 is a perfect score.  In addition, Fern Creek’s average composite score of 17.8 put the school in eighth place overall, ahead of 13 other JCPS high schools.

The ACT Test is a measure of how prepared students are to perform college-level work. All juniors in Kentucky are now required to take this test each spring.

Fern Creek Traditional High School is a Communications, Media and the Arts school with a rich history as the first high school in Jefferson County.
