The Fern Creek Film Club, the Louisville Film Society, and KET are teaming up for the second season of the Community Cinema series. This year’s first screening is the one-hour documentary Reel Injun on Thursday, October 28, at 6:00 pm. in the high school’s auditorium. The film, which is free and open to the public, is part of a monthly Community Cinema offering by the Independent Lens series on PBS. The free film series will continue with a different film each month at the school.
A group of Louisville Film Society and Fern Creek Film Club members will stage a panel discussion about the film after the screenings. Along with these two groups, KET is sponsoring the local Community Cinema screenings.
Reel Injun: On the Trail of the American Indian is an entertaining trip through the evolution of North American Native people ("The Indians") as portrayed in famous Hollywood movies from the silent era to today. Jim Jarmusch, Clint Eastwood, Graham Greene, John Trudell, and others provide insights into the often demeaning and occasionally hilariously absurd stereotypes perpetuated on the big screen through Hollywood's history.
Fern Creek Traditional High School is located at 9115 Fern Creek Road. The auditorium is located at the north end of the school and is entered at the top of the round steps. For more information, call 502-485-6362.
